Organic is important for our Beauty Supplies Too

I remember being stunned the first time I was introduced to the link between chemicals in “helpful” products and the health of animals.  I thought lotions, soaps and shampoos were supposed to keep me looking young, and feeling healthy.  I thought certain types of medicines and vitamins were supposed to give me more choices in life and enable me to live longer.  In a biology lecture in college, my professor showed maps and graphs that directly linked the use of birth control pills in the U.S. and the increasing sterility rate of porpuses in South America.  How could these pills that we were being encouraged to take affect other species so far away?  And, what other chemicals are affecting hormonal or biological responses in us and our direct environment?
